Do foreign countries check your home country for criminal records?

Monday, May 18th, 2009
Alex asked:

I moved from America and married a beautiful girl in Germany. I’m now applying for a residential permit so I can stay here. But on the application, it asked if I have any criminal convictions anywhere. Truth is, I acted like a dumb*ss when I was younger, getting whacked with things like disorderly conduct and trespassing–3 misdemeanors, to be exact. I don’t want to list them cause I never told my wife about them…I just wanted to keep my idiot past in the past.

If I put no, is there a chance they’d do a search of their own? Or just put down only one of the charges?

How do I find out about a criminal record?

AJ asked:

My husband just hired an employee that mentioned after he was hired that he has a federal criminal past. I cannot find anything about the employee online. I searched the Federal Bureau of Prisons and found his release date in 1990. Where can I find out why he was in jail?
